2年生の時から数えて、3年間マスデンゼミでお世話になりました。
留学生と普段接する機会があっても、普段は他愛もない話ばかりでなかなか文化的な、込み入った話はできません。
しかしこの授業に参加したことで、彼らが授業に挑む姿（発言等）を見ることで文化的な違いを感じることができました。
大学にいてもなかなか、留学生と接する機会のない人たち、また留学生にとっても交流することができとてもいい出会いの場だと思います。
ゼミ旅行等多くのイベントを通して、日本の文化、そして留学生の考えを教えあうこともできる。
本当に、英語はコミュニケーションを図るツールであることを思い知り、そして自分の国のことをあまり知らなかったことが恥ずかしくも思いました。
だからこそ、これからも英語の勉強を続け、そして日本という国に興味を持ち調べていこうと意欲が湧いていました。

断り方-how to say no-
hi:) I wrote on my blog for a long time.
Today I wanna write how to say no in Japan.
I work as salesperson of clothes at Turuya and help them to choose clothes.
Recently I have something on my mind in that many customer visit everyday.
It is rejection.
Customers try to save money after cristmas and new year, so they turn down our helping.
However their answer is dubious.
For example.....
"I will be back again."
"I look around other shops and come back."
"May I consider?" etc.....
Customer said it will not come again.
Almost japanese customer turn down politely.
I am confused by these answers.
When I'm shopping, I don't give her/him hope. So I don't say like that.
I wanna get reply honestly......
How about your country??
When you turn down, how do you act??

授業では扱わなかった、気になるトピックについて.......
制服（uniform）
「日本人は制服が好きだよね！」と留学中、そして日本で出会う外国人の方々によく言われる。
Japanese loves uniform! My friends and people I met in foreign countries told me, when I was in England.
日本で、中学生や高校生は制服を自分なりに着こなして、楽しんでいるようだが、海外の同じ年頃の子たちは制服を嫌い、特に多くの女生徒は私服を持っていき放課後着替えて帰宅する子が多いようです。
People are junior high school or high school in Japan are enjoying wearing uniform. However people in foreign countries doesn't like uniform. Especially girls seems to bring own clothes and change after school.
これはイギリスの子から聞いた話だけど、他の国も一緒なのかな？？
I heard about it from my british friends. Is it same as other countries??
日本では制服のない生活はありません。Japanese can't work without uniform.
日本人は幼稚園から制服を着用し始めます。Japanese starts wearing uniform from kinder garden.
洋服を売る仕事でさえも、制服としてお店の商品を着るようにと言われます。
People work at clothes shop have to wear clothes are sold at there as uniform.
なんで日本人は制服を好むのだと思いますか？？Why Japanese loves uniform??
これは私の意見ですが... In my opinion...
日本人はどんなことをするときも協調性を大事します。きっと歴史的な背景や島国であることも理由の一つだと思う。
Cooperativeness is important for Japanese. I think there is some of the reason are historic background and that Japan is island country.
どんなときも何をするにも"みんなで一緒"が基本です。"Anytime doing together" is basic.
一人がその輪から外れていると、変わった人だと思われます。If there is person do difference, people think he/she is strange or crazy.
小学生の時は、集団下校といって放課後はみんなで一緒に帰宅するとゆう決まりもありました。
When I was in elementary school, there was rule to go home toigether after school. It's called "Syudan-gekou".

これは、前に読んだ国民性に関する本に書いてあったことで、私が実際に留学中感じたことですが、海外旅行に行って自国の人と出会った時日本人はそれをすごく嫌がるそうです。
しかし他の国の方たちはむしろ喜んで話しかけたりするらしい...
By the way, I have read the book is written about nationality before. In this book,Japanese doesn't like to meet Japanese,when they travel to foreign coutry.
However people are not Japanese like it. When they meet people are same nationality, they will approach and talk to them.
本当なんでしょうか？

"いらっしゃいませ！！！！"
「いらっしゃいませ！！！」ってお店によって言い方が異なっているようです！！
例えば
お寿司やさんの場合・・・「へいっ！らっしゃい」
フレンチレストランだと・・・「いらっしゃいませ」
居酒屋だったら・・・「いらっしゃいませぇぇぇぇ」 みたいなね。
でも日本のレストランや居酒屋ってそれだけではないでしょ！？！？
お店によっては店長やシェフが見送りに来るところもあるんです。
確かに私が働いている居酒屋でもお客さんが帰るときは必ず、従業員が揃って見送りをします。
私が受講しているビジネスイングリッシュのアメリカ人の先生はこれにすごく驚いたけど、同時に感心したんだそうです。
日本のレストランや洋服店などの対応で異文化を感じたことはありますか？

There are some different ways to say "IRASSYAIMASE" by restaurant.
For example...
at SUSHI restaurant..."IRASSYAIMASE" sounds like strongly and loudly.
at french food restaurant..."IRASSYAIMASE" sounds like gently.
at Izakaya..."IRASSYAIMASE" sounds like frendly. etc...
but in addition, owner or chef sometimes come to see you off at the door.
Actually, in my izakaya employer and employees see customer off every time.
My American teacher who teach me business English were surprised and impressed at the same time.
Have you ever felt different culture in service at the restaurant or clothing shop???
例えば

"OTAKU"
ゲームオタク・アニメオタク・・・
今では“オタク”という言葉が世界共通語としてありますが、日本と諸外国でも“オタク”の概念は一緒なのだろうか？？？
“オタク”と言わると、どんなことを想像しますか？
・メガネをかけている
・服装がダサい
・女の子の人形を持ち歩いている
・パソコンに詳しい などなど・・・
でも、実際はゲームやアニメが好きでそのことにとても詳しく、でもオシャレにも興味のある女の子や男の子はたくさんいます。
彼らの場合は、“オタク”とは呼ばれないのだろうか？
